Larry Gene Prichard

April 11, 1939 ~ March 18, 2014 (age 74) 74 Years Old
Larry Gene Prichard, 74, of Carter County went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital after a short illness. He was a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington WV, where he earned a Master’s plus 45 in education administration. He was a born again Christian and Sunday school teacher as well as a lifelong servant for public education in West Virginia and Kentucky.
Larry had a diversified life, investing in many pursuits and learning at a very early age the value of hard work, of education, and strong spiritual guidance.  After a 15 year career at Chemtron Corporation as a Chemical Engineer, he chose education as his ultimate course in life, serving Lincoln County in West Virginia as a teacher, principal and administrator. Following tenure as the Superintendent of Randolph County Schools in West Virginia, his career in education culminated as the Superintendent of Carter County Schools in Kentucky.
He loved God, family and education foremost and spent time dedicated to each. Larry taught Bible class at Branchland Baptist Church, was a lay speaker at Lincoln Southern Baptist and loved good preaching and deep study of the Bible. His most blessed events in life were his marriage to his sweetheart, Myrtle Frye and time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Time spent helping them get a solid start in life, learning important lessons, or just playing basketball or golf with them. He volunteered his time as a coach and referee of Junior and Senior High School Basketball and believed that every child deserved an opportunity to achieve to their utmost level. After retirement he championed and worked tirelessly for the building of the Carter County Public Library to further the educational advancement of the public he served.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Heck Prichard and his father, Homer Lee Prichard, both of Branchland, WV. He was also preceded by his step-father and very special friend, Hallie Cremeans. He is survived by his wife and dearest love, Myrtle Mae Prichard of Grayson, KY. He is also survived by his brother Roger Kent Prichard, of West Hamlin, WV and his sister Della Lynn Wolfe of Columbus, OH.
Larry leaves behind two children; daughter Melissa Dawn Neace of Point Pleasant, WV and son Larry Christopher Norman Prichard and wife Kara Chandler Prichard, of Centreville, VA. He also leaves three grandchildren; Dillon Tyler Neace, of Huntington, WV, Logan Taylor Prichard, of Centreville, VA and Chase Wallace Prichard, also of Centreville, VA.
He is survived by a loving extended family including four sister-in-laws; Mary Helen Terry of Red House, WV, Sue Heilmann of Winfield, WV, Cathy McComas of West Hamlin, WV and Judith Midkiff of Branchland, WV and all of their husbands, children and grandchildren.
