James Arthur Salyers, 79 of Grayson went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 1 2017 after an extended illness. He was born August 18, 1937 in Boyd County, a son of the late James Thomas and Anna Stewart Salyers. He was retired from Kentucky Electric Steel and founding member of EK Railroad Band. He attended the Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was former pastor of Dixie Park Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two grandsons and a great-grandchild, and one brother Elmer Lee Salyers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Judy Steele Salyers; two sons, Mike (MaryJo) Salyers and Jamie Salyers both of Grayson; two daughters, Melody Salyers Gumm of Ashland and Sarah and husband Bryan Conley of Catlettsburg KY; three sisters, Mary Pinkerton of Cannonsburg, Flora Salyers and husband Ron Rye of Conway AR and Alice Oney; three brothers, Noah and wife Deloris Salyers of Ebro FL, Marvin and wife Joann Salyers of Cannonsburg KY and Joe and wife Mary Lou Salyers of Cannonsburg KY; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives to mourn his passing. Music was his greatest passion other than God and his family.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Joed Rice, minister. Burial will be in the Salyers-Steele Family Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. Monday till service. Condolences may be sent to Jim’s family at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
