Louis Edward Porter

Louis Edward Porter, 78, of Grayson went to be with his Lord Saturday August 19, 2017 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Louis was born March 27, 1939 in Dobbins, KY a son of the late Ray and Katherine Sloas Porter.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Pennington Porter; his sons, Jeffrey ( Valerie) Porter and Stacy (Tara) Porter both of Grayson, a daughter, Michelle (Dave) Gilbert of Oldtown, KY; a brother, Willis Porter; a sister, Delores Evans both of Webbville, KY; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight step- great grandchildren.
Louis served his country honorably in the US Army for 4 years, 2 of which he was stationed in Augsburgh, Germany. Louis flew home 1963 to marry the love of his life. Upon completing his stint in the military, he worked at AK steel for 36 ½ years. Once he retired, he helped friends and neighbors by being there with a helping hand. Louis also helped babysit his two grandbabies, Noah and Scarlett who had his heart. Louis taught Sunday school for many years at both Middle Fork Enterprise Church and Smith Branch Enterprise Baptist Church. He was an avid Bible Scholar and loved learning as much as he could about God’s word. Louis currently attended Fellowship Christian Baptist Church.
Including his parents Louis was preceded in death by his mother in-law and father in-law, Sanford and Hazel Cassell Pennington; two brother in-laws, Burt Evans and Jesse Pennington; and sister in-law, Connie Sexton.
Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday August 24, 2017 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Tim Porter and Bryan Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Wednesday and after 9 am Thursday at the funeral home.
