Margaret (Margie) Stephens Womack of Grayson, KY died peacefully in God’s arms June 18, 2017 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington W VA. Margie was born Feb. 24, 1919 to the late Emma and George Stephens of Hitchins, KY.
Margie graduated from Hitchins High School and attended the University of Kentucky. Although not a Ky graduate, she and her husband John, were avid and loyal Kentucky supporters attending not only events in Lexington but also following their teams throughout the country. Margie worked alongside John on the family farm for over 40 years.
Margie was a longtime member of the Bagby Memorial Methodist Church in Grayson , KY. She served the church as a Sunday School teacher, and was very active assisting with office duties and church events, enhancing the beauty of the church with flowers and decorations. She could be found every Sunday morning faithfully filling her pew for the morning service.
Margie was a member of the original Grayson Garden Club and also a Cub Scout Den mother. She loved working puzzles and enjoyed arts and crafts, piecing together many quilts by hand and excelling at counted cross stitch designs. She loved the many animals and pets that graced the farm, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and deer that came to the small orchard to visit. When weather permitted she could usually be found on the patio enjoying the beautiful hills and green grasses of the farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years John Gaines Womack, her son John Gaines Womack II, and grandson Hunter Frazee Womack, as well as brothers Kenneth and Lester Stephens and sisters Virginia (Lovie) Clark, Juanita Rucker and Dempsey Prichard.
She is survived by her sister Joyce Bradley of Lexington, KY, her daughter Karen Leslia Womack of Oxford, OH, her daughter-in-law Amanda Hart Womack of Grayson, KY, and her grandson John Gaines Womack III of Lexington, KY, nine nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be held 5-7 pm Wed., June 21st 2017 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson Ky. Funeral services will be held Thursday June 22nd 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bagby Memorial Methodist Church in Grayson, KY. Visitors may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Bagby Methodist Church.
