Major Allan C. Bevilacqua, USMC, Ret, age 91, of Grayson, KY passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born January 7, 1931, in Cobleskill, NY to the late Alice (nee Bevilacqua) Burrell and Allan Burrell.

After graduating from Philip Schuyler High School in Albany, NY in 1949, Allan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, launching a career that would span 32 years, both in enlisted and officer ranks. His foreign service included combat tours in Korea and Vietnam (3 tours). He also did an exchange service with the French Foreign Legion in Morocco and Algeria. His occupational specialties included service as a machine gunner, a forward observer, a drill instructor at MCRD San Diego, an intelligence specialist, and finally rounding out his career as an instructor at several of the military schools at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. He is also remembered as a frequent author/contributor to the Leatherneck magazine. Additionally, he authored a book of anecdotes from his Marine Corps service, titled, The Way It Was.

In addition to his parents, Allan is pre-deceased by his first wife of 41 years, Wanda Gentry Bevilacqua and his younger daughter, Mirielle “MiMi” Downs.

He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather (fondly known as “Gunny”), and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gloria Kiser Patterson Bevilacqua and his older daughter Danielle “DeDee” McGinnis. Other survivors include his stepchildren Terrie Patterson and Michael Patterson.
His half siblings include Gerry Toman (Phil), Patty Forchini (Rodney), and Keith Burrell (Carol).  Grandchildren include: April Heffren (Mike), Shelby McGinnis, Brittany Patterson (Mike), Morgan Patterson (Sean), and Kayla Patterson. Great grandchildren include: Haiden Eddleton and Emery Blazek.
