Bert Sparks, Sr., 93, of Ashland went to be with his Lord Friday September 21, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Bert was born February 8, 1925 in Webbville, KY a son of the late George W. Sr. and Martha Jane Stevens Sparks. In addition to his parents Bert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years 7 months and 6 days in 2015, Jean Edwards Sparks; five brothers, George Sparks, Jr., Lonnie Sparks, Rich Sparks, Bill Sparks and Virgil Sparks; four sisters, May Pennington, Lizzie Porter, Martha Savage and Melissa Wells; a son in-law, June Spradlin; and a grandson in-law, Mike Smallridge.
Bert was a member of the Rt. 5 Christian Baptist Church where he loved serving the Lord. Bert was a retired millwright and the last Charter member of Local 1519. Bert was also a member of the Fred M Gross Lodge #953. Bert was known for his humble and caring attitude and loved his family with all his heart.
Bert is survived by his son, Bert (Kim) Sparks, Jr.; a daughter, Della Spradlin all of Ashland; three grandchildren, Stacey Wilks of Ashland, Garrett (Courtney) Sparks of Pittsburgh and Debra Smallridge of Catlettsburg; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Wilks, Emily Wilks and Tiffany Smallridge; and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday September 24, 2018 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Gary Sparks and David Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the George Sparks Cemetery.
