Bruce W. Hixson, 65, of Wurtland, KY went home to be with his heavenly Father and was met at the gate by his pastor and friend, Paul H. Schmidt on Sunday June 18, 2017 at his residence. Bruce was born April 26, 1952 in Ashland, KY a son of the late Robert W., Jr. and Emma Margaret Carr Hixson. Including his parents Bruce was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert W. and Thelma Hixson; and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mada Carr.
Bruce was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grayson where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, and as a Sunday school teacher. Bruce loved the Lord and serving others, he never met a stranger. Bruce was also a volunteer at Community Hospice and enjoyed woodworking and riding his Harley Davidson. Bruce graduated from Paul G. Blazer in 1970 and went on to get a degree in applied science from Ashland Community College, and later studied at Boyce Bible College. Bruce served honorably in the Kentucky Army National Guard in the 201st Engineer Bgd. Bruce worked at National Mine Service Co. and retired from Sun Chemical Inc.; and after retirement went back to work for the Greenup County UK Cooperative Extension Office.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Scott Hixson; two brothers, Robert W. (Marie) Hixson, III of Sparks, NV and Paul D. (Debi) Hixson of Ashland; a sister, Mary M. (Duane) Gilliam of Argillite, KY; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who all mourn his passing.
Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Grayson will be serving as pallbearers.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday June 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Grayson with Bro. Paul Badgett, Bro. Roger McCaleb, Bro. Josh Schmidt and Bro. William Vallance officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Visitation will be 11am Wednesday until the service hour at the church.
