Chester “Chet” McDavid, 88 of Grayson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Chet was born May 8, 1930 at Beetle, KY a son of the late Hughie and Rose Oney McDavid. In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded by a son, Chris McDavid; one sister, Sybil Morris; three brothers, David McDavid, Carl Wayne McDavid and Gene McDavid. A native of Beetle, Kentucky, Chet graduated from Hitchens High School in 1947 then attended Ashland Community College to study business. In 1951, Chet began his military career with the United States Air Force where he spent time at Wahepton, North Dakota, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, and the Philippines. As part of his military service, Chet was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. By the mid-fifties, Chet joined the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, working as a project engineer for quality control, erosion and environmental projects in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Alaska. Chet was a member of First Baptist Church of Grayson. His family remembers him fondly as an avid golfer, and a proud man who loved God, family, country and politics. Chet is survived by his wife of 63 years, Belva Mullins McDavid; one son, Craig (Scheryl) McDavid of Raleigh NC; one daughter, Kay (Ian) Carr of Ashland KY; two sisters, Mary “Bargie” Parsons of Grayson and Bobbie Burgess of Lakeland FL; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Morgan, Greg, Meagan and Joey; special sister-in-law, Kay McDavid; special nephews, Barry and Hugh McDavid; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be Friday 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Josh Schmidt, minister. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens with military honors.
