Dale Harwood was like a second father to me. He was my Scoutmaster in Troop 51, West Logan Baptist Church and I was his first Eagle. Dale was a great Scouter and mentor to a lot of young men in the 50 plus years he was in Scouting. I remember the day we went winter camping at Camp Chief Logan...around Dec. 1958. Our tents were Army pup tents provided by a member of the church, no floors like today. We woke up to about a foot of snow! Dale had already got up, stomped down an area we could put oil cloths on to sit and had a big fire and a big pot of coffee on it. He fixed my first cup of coffee......lots of sugar and cream, darned little coffee. I respected him my whole life. I became a scoutmaster because of his example. He was a gifted carver, musician and most of all....a person who would listen and teach you how to be a better scout and a better person. Dale had a big impact on my life and I'm grateful for knowing him.

We were saddened to read on the West Logan Baptist Church page about Dale's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.Your dad was my brother Fred's Boy Scout leader for many years. Fred looked up to him and often shared many memories with us. He cherished the carving that Dale gave him years ago. He still had it when he passed away last year.

Totsy, Debbie and family, my thoughts and prayers go up for each of you. It was a blessing to have known Dale. it was obvious that he was a man who loved his family. I pray that God would grant peace, grace, and strength for the coming days.
