Donald Lester Barker 86, of Rush went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Donald was born July 27, 1932 in Catlettsburg, KY a son of the late Dennie Jefferson and Bessie Lockwood Barker. He was an Korean War Air Force Veteran, retired from Iron Workers local #769 in Ashland, a member of the Coalton First Baptist Church and ROMEO club (Retired, Old, Men, Eating, Out). Donald loved his family more than anything. He also loved his church family, his friends, which were many, and Jesus with all his heart. He will be remembered for lending a helping hand or a kind word to anyone who needed it. He was preceded in death by a son; Brian Barker; one sister, Barbara Howard; three brothers, Dennie Barker, Phillip Barker and Doug Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Thomas Barker; one son, Donald (Sherri) L. Barker Jr. of Columbus OH; three daughters, Kimberly (Tim) Melvin of Greenup KY, Deanna (Matt) Farley of Beckley WV and Michelle Dawn (Matthew) Earls of Cumming GA; eight grandchildren, Rob (Autum) Thomas, Samantha (John) Stafford, Tyler Stewart, Lauren Curtis, Stephanie, Meagen, Katelyn and Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Bryan Thomas and Remi; one sister, Loretta (Paul) Clark of Lorain OH; five brothers, Kenneth (Ann) Barker of Worthington OH, James (Barb) Freeman of Marion OH, John Freeman of Marion OH, Paul (Mary) Freeman of Vermillion OH and Robert (Karen) Freeman of Marion OH.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 1:00 p.m. at Coalton First Baptist with Clell Lucas, minister. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East with full military honors.
