Freda Ann Burton Conley

Freda Ann Burton Conley, 86 of Grayson went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland. Freda was born September 25, 1931 in Grayson, a daughter of the late Jay and Melinda Waggoner Burton. Freda was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, John Conley in 1983, with whom she married on April 7, 1950. A newborn son, David Conley in 1953, and a brother, Denny Burton in 2013.
Freda attended Beech Grove one room school house during her elementary years and was a 1949 graduate of Hitchins High School. She was a member of Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church since 1951, and attended Maranatha Bible Church in Webbville, KY for the last 34 years. She was the former owner and operator of Conley's Market on Main Street in Grayson from 1968- 1982.
Freda was a talented crafter. She pieced and hand-quilted many quilts for herself and many others as far away as New York and Florida. She won many area and state awards for her handwork. She also was skilled in tatting (which she learned at the side of her beloved mother) crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. She loved spending her day making pieces for family and friends.
Her survivors include a daughter, Johnda and husband Clarence Adkins of Grayson; 2 grandchildren , Seth Adkins of Flemingsburg and Lauren Adkins of Frankfort, KY; 3 sisters, Carolyn Carter and Ruby (Raymond) Doyle of Grayson and Rosemary Lloyd of Louisville; 2 brothers, Steve (Charlene) Burton of Barboursville, WV, Clayton Burton of Grayson and one sister-in-law, Sarah Burton of Bellefonte. Freda is also survived by her church family, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and a host of friends.
She was also very blessed to have a special nephew, Jason (Mary) Carter of Grayson and niece , Delee (Chris) Butler of Ashland, which she thought of as her grandchildren. Extra special great nephews, Dylan Scott Williams, Timothy Chase Carter, and great niece, Claire Beth Carter, which were the light of her life. She loved their visits and would reminisce for days about their schanigans. She also leaves behind her loving caregivers: Gail Caudill, Patty Pennington and her former caregiver and best friend, Dora Parks. Her precious dog, Biscuit.
Services will be conducted Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Jessie Fyffe, Steve Owens and Gerald Ferguson, ministers. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to Gideon’s International.
