George Smithfield Easterling, Jr., 87, of Oldtown went to be with his Lord and Savior with his family surrounding him at his residence, Wednesday, May 8, 2019. George was born October 19, 1931 in Grayson a son of George Sr. and Bertha Williams Easterling. George was retired from Ametek, served his country as an Air Force veteran, attended the Hopewell United Methodist Church, charter member of the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department which in recent weeks the fire station was renamed Easterling Station, charter member of the Greenup County Historical Society, F&A.M. #145 Trimble Lodge where he served as past master three times, V.F.W. and a former board member of Grayson RECC. He was preceded in death by one son, Chris Easterling; one sister, Madge Shaffer; one brother, Eugene Easterling. His survivors include his wife of 62 years Joan Womack Easterling; one daughter Leslie (Matthew) Easterling Stout of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter-in-law, Dawn Easterling of Grayson; special nephew, Robert Shaffer of Grayson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Malone Funeral Home with Chris Bellew and Tom Swartzwelder, ministers. Burial will be in the Womack Cemetery at Oldtown. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Masonic rites starting at 7:00 p.m, and after 12 noon on Sunday.
