Hazel Evans Shufflebarger

Hazel Evans Shufflebarger, 88, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, KY. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Hazel was born on April 12, 1933 in Grayson, KY. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mabel Litteral Evans. Hazel was a graduate of Prichard High School in 1951 and met and married her husband, Dr. Harold Shufflebarger, on December 18, 1954. They were married 61 years.
Hazel assisted her husband in growing his medical practice in Grayson by working in his office as needed until his practice was established. She attended First Church of Christ in Grayson for many years. She was a member of the Loyal Daughters Sunday School class and she worked during Vacation Bible School, cared for babies in the church nursery, and helped deliver food to families during times of need. Hazel was a member of the Grayson Younger Woman’s Club, Red Rose Garden Club and Order of Eastern Star chapter #10 Grayson.
Hazel’s proudest role was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and kept a pristine home for her family. She was always there for her family and friends and loved each one with her whole heart.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harold Evans and his wife Lenore; her sister, Irene Blankenship and her husband J.D.; and her nephew, Charles Evans. Hazel is survived by her son, Eric and wife Deirdre Shufflebarger of Grayson; her daughter, Alicia and husband Richard Gire of Walton, KY; four grandsons, Evan Gire (Allison) of Cold Spring, KY, Alex Gire of Independence, KY, Aaron Shufflebarger and Matthew Shufflebarger of Grayson; and one great-grandson, Maxwell Christopher Gire of Cold Spring, KY. She is also survived by her nephew, John Blankenship (Rita) of Frostproof, FL; niece, Sandy Evans of Russell, KY; great-niece, Sarah Malone (Ryan and children, Abigail and Ellen) of Zeeland, MI; great-nephews, Jim Evans (Arlene) of Grayson; Paul Clere of Russell, KY; Steven Clere (Sherry) of Grayson; and John Clere (Donna) of Nashville, TN; brother-in-law, Morris Shufflebarger of Grayson, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 10, 1:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. George Steele and Bro. Joed Rice, ministers. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens. Friends may call Saturday 11:00 a.m. until service time at Malone Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew and Aaron Shufflebarger, Alex and Evan Gire, Tim Kitchen, Tim Johnson, Dwayne Stapleton and Richard Gire.
