James R. ''J.R.'' Elam

James Robert “J.R.” Elam, 86, of Grayson, KY went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY. J.R. was born on Thursday, March 10, 1938, in Grayson, KY a son of the late Robert and Marie Waggoner Elam. In addition to his parents, J.R. was preceded in death by daughters, Kimberly Elam who passed away at birth and Jamie Elam Hall; son, Rob Elam; grandson, Elijah Hall; granddaughter-in-law, Stacy Kiser; brother, Jack Elam; and sister Jean Grubb.
J.R. served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He had a strong work ethic and retired from the Pipefitters Local 248 after more than 30 years of service. J.R. enjoyed fixing and selling cars, watching the Kentucky Wildcats, but his family is what he enjoyed the most.
J.R. is survived by one son, Tim (Patty) Lawson; one sister, Bobbi Stephens; ten grandchildren, Josh Kiser, Maria (Ashton) Kirk, Zack (Carly) Kelly, Robert Elam, Corey (DaShae) Elam, Breanna (Trey Roe) Elam, Tim Lawson, Barton Lawson, Adam Lawson, and Dustin Lawson; several great, great- great, and great-great- great grandchildren; and a host of friends and extended family who all mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. David Boggs, officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
