John Willie Bays

John Willie Bays, 97, of Grayson passed away Friday, December 18, 2020. John was born May 22, 1923, in Webbville, KY a son of the late Charles Younger and Ilah Sturgill Bays. John was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner and instructor of mine safety. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Sharlette Johnson Bays; brothers, Bruce Bays, Denver Bays, and Hubert Bays; and sister, Maude Bays. Survivors include a son, William Kenton Bays; grandson, Nicholas Bays; sister, Anna Lois Bays; step-daughter Diane (Billy) Smith, and step-sons Larry (Jean) Brown and Gary (Donna) Brown; and a step-grandson, Chris Hicks. A host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family also mourn his passing.
