Lawrence Edwin Carter

Lawrence Edwin “Larry” Carter, 78 of Ashland, went to be with his Lord Sunday July 4, 2021 at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, OH. Larry was born March 3, 1943 in Grayson a son of the late, Roy Thomas and Lucille Riley Carter, Sr. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Coburn Carter; and two brothers, Roy Thomas Carter, Jr. and Arnold Carter, preceded Larry in death.
Larry was an US Navy veteran who served his country honorably during the Vietnam War on the USS Coral Sea. Larry went on to retire from CSX Railroad after 37 years as an Engineer. Larry was known for his caring and generous personality. Larry enjoyed working on cars and mowing.
Larry is survived by a son, Lawrence Edwin Carter, Jr.; two daughters, Kathy Sue Lucas and Diane Lynn Carter all of Ashland; four grandchildren, Justin Carter, Krystal Lucas, Aaron (Taylor) Helton, and Adam Helton; five grandchildren, Gavin Taylor, Gatlin Pinkerman, Gabrielle Taylor, Layla Carter and Cooper Helton; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Beverly) Carter of Grayson; and a host pf friends and extended family who all mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday July 8, 2021 at the Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Delmar Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East with military honors. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Wednesday and after 9 am Thursday until the service hour.
