Winfred Luther "Winnie" Jones

Winfred Luther “Winnie” Jones, 94, of Grayson took his residence in his Heavenly home Wednesday September 12, 2018. Winnie was born January 5, 1924 in Denton, KY a son of the late Joseph and Amanda Kelly Jones. In addition to his parents Winnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years in 2014, Margie Maxine Bellew Jones; a grandson, Anthony Joseph “Tony” Jones; three brothers, one half-brother and two sisters.
Winnie was a faithful member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ for over 60 years, serving as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. His positive attitude lifted the spirits of all who knew him.
Winnie’s love for his country always brought a tear to his eyes. He was a US Navy veteran having served honorably during World War II, in the Pacific and Atlantic Theater 3 years 2 months active duty and five years in no-active reserves, having received 8 service ribbons including the good conduct ribbon. Winnie was a life member of the DAV serving as past commander of chapter 147 Grayson, KY. He started flying the American Flag in 1946 until his death. The family will continue flying the flag in his honor. Winnie was a retired finish carpenter and past member of the Carpenters Union Local 172 Ashland.
Winnie is survived by one son, Bob (Clara) Jones of Lapeer, MI; one daughter, Tonda (Amon) Yates of Grayson; three grand-children: Angie ( Kevin) LaBarge of Lapeer, MI, Stacy Jones of Buckeye, AZ , and Stephen (Krista) Yates of League City, TX; a granddaughter in-law, Sylvia Yates of Grayson; nine great grandchildren: Nicole McVety , Ryan, Devin and Nathan LaBarge all of Lapeer, MI, Kyle, Rob and Angelina Yates all of Grayson, Sian and Daniel Yates both of League City, TX; three great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends who rejoice in the life that he lived never losing his sense of humor and always putting a smile on your face. His stories will live on in the memory of all who loved him.
Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday September 19th, 2018 at the Oak Grove Church of Christ with Donald Damron, Bradley Cotten and Tim Carper officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Tuesday at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson and after 10 am Wednesday at the church until the time of service.
